Remanufacturing
Recognized in Business Week
Fairfax,
Virginia – In
an article profiling “Green Manufacturing,” Business
Week magazine recognized the remanufacturing industry. The article, which appeared in the April 16 “Industrial Management”
edition of Business Week,
covered the full range of remanufacturing in the United States, and
interviewed several leading industry figures. In addition to TRI Chairman William C. Gager, Business
Week cited Nabil Nasr, Director of the National Center for
Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery at the Rochester Institute of
Technology as well as several large corporations actively engaged in
remanufacturing, such as Xerox, Dell Computer Corp., and Sony.
A sidebar to the main
story examined recent remanufacturing trends in the U.S. Army.
“We’re absolutely delighted that our industry
has been recognized by such a prestigious national magazine,” says
Bill Gager. “This will
help us tremendously in our efforts to lobby the government for greater
and more favorable attention to the interests of remanufacturers.”
Current TRI lobbying efforts include support for
HR 1037, the Small Employers’ Tax Relief Act, which includes a tax
credit for the purchase of equipment used in the remanufacturing process
as well as HR 1304, a stand-alone version of the same tax measure. In addition, TRI is actively supporting a research tax credit and
the appointment of a new Federal Environmental Executive to continue the
policy of requiring government purchases of remanufactured and recycled
content products.
